{"id":431816,"date":"2026-06-15T08:12:42","date_gmt":"2026-06-15T06:12:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pvtistes.net\/en\/?p=431816"},"modified":"2026-06-21T15:26:12","modified_gmt":"2026-06-21T13:26:12","slug":"third-year-in-canada-brits-iec","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pvtistes.net\/en\/third-year-in-canada-brits-iec\/","title":{"rendered":"IEC Canada for UK Citizens: How to Apply for a Second Participation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As of 2024, nationals of the <strong>United Kingdom<\/strong> are eligible to participate in <a href=\"https:\/\/pvtistes.net\/en\/international-experience-canada\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">International Experience Canada<\/a> (IEC) <strong>twice<\/strong> in any of the following categories:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Working Holiday<\/li>\n<li>Young Professionals<\/li>\n<li>International Co-op<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The first permit will be issued for a maximum of 24 months, and the second for a maximum of 12 months*, for a total of 36 months. <\/p>\n<p>This article will explain how to apply for the second participation.<br \/>\n\n\t\t\t<div class=\"c-dossier-article__info\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"c-dossier-article__info-wrap\">\n\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t<div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\tIf you are applying for your first participation, read the <a href=\"https:\/\/pvtistes.net\/en\/dossiers\/iec-tutorial-internship-young-professionals-working-holiday-in-canada\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">IEC Canada application guide (for all nationalities and categories)<\/a>.\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\n<p><em>*Exception: If you participated in IEC before 2015 for a period of up to 12 months, you are eligible for a second participation of up to 24 months in any category. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/immigration-refugees-citizenship\/services\/work-canada\/iec\/eligibility.html?selection=gb-wh#selection\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Source<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<h2>Important rules to keep in mind<\/h2>\n<p>Please keep in mind that:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>There is no such thing as an IEC \u201cextension\u201d or \u201crenewal\u201d. The second participation is applied for independently from the first. You will receive two <strong>separate<\/strong> IEC permits. <\/li>\n<li>You cannot obtain all three years upfront. The first IEC permit will be for a maximum of 24 months. <\/li>\n<li>For each of your two participations, you can choose between any of the three IEC categories:<br \/>\n&#8211; Working Holiday<br \/>\n&#8211; Young Professionals<br \/>\n&#8211; International Co-op <\/li>\n<li>The full set of eligibility criteria are applicable to both participations. This means age limit, minimum savings, adequate insurance etc. <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Overview of application process<\/h2>\n<p>If you have participated in IEC before and are eligible to participate again, you\u2019ll need to go through all the same steps as the first time, namely:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Enter your profile into the IEC pool for your desired category.<\/li>\n<li>Await an invitation to apply. <\/li>\n<li>Accept the invitation and submit your application. <\/li>\n<li>Await your POE Letter of Introduction.<\/li>\n<li>Activate your IEC permit. There are <strong>two ways<\/strong> to do this, explained in the following section.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>You can use the same IRCC account from your first application, but you\u2019ll need to create a new profile to join the IEC pool. This is because you still have to join the pools and hope to be selected from the random lottery. However, some people choose to wait a little longer to avoid losing any time off the work permit (as the visitor record will overwrite the work permit once granted).<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t leave applying for the visitor record until the last day in case the IRCC website is down! You will be overstaying illegally if you have not applied for a visitor record before your initial permit expires. The IRCC website states:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor any country or territory where you\u2019ve stayed for 6 or more months in a row, the certificate must have been issued after you left.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Most people are still living in their home country at the time of applying for the police certificate.
