Globe WHV Light frequently asked questions

General information
Health & assistance
1
Is Globe WHV Light insurance available for all destinations?

Almost! The Globe WHV Light plan is recognised by the authorities of every country with WHV agreements, except Canada. It is therefore valid for your WHV applications to embassies and consulates – excluding Canada.

2
A job that includes complementary insurance is waiting for me at my destination. Do I still need to subscribe to Globe WHV Light?

In most cases, insurance is mandatory for your administrative procedures or to cross the border. When insurance is not mandatory, it is strongly recommended, as it provides repatriation and personal civil liability coverage, which are very important during a stay abroad. For example, in the event of death or a serious accident, all resulting costs (medical aircraft, medical staff, ambulance, etc.) would be borne by you or your family.

3
Is your Globe WHV Light travel insurance reserved for students?

No, Globe WHV Light insurance can be purchased by all WHV holders, whatever their nationality (except IEC Canada permit holders).

4
Am I also covered during trips back to my home country?

The Globe WHV Light plan covers you only in your WHV country. If you want to be covered during temporary returns to your home country, we recommend the Globe WHV insurance. With Globe WHV, guaranteed medical emergencies during a stay in your home country are covered, up to €15,000 per contract year (maximum 30 days).
Note that if you return to your home country permanently, the coverage ends.

5
My credit card covers me during the first 3 months of my stay. Can I subscribe to your plan afterwards?

Yes, this is possible, but several points must be taken into account:
– Read your credit card insurance policy carefully. Check the schedule of benefits to see whether the coverage is serious (deductibles, limits, waiting periods, etc.). You can compare it with the Globe WHV Light schedule of benefits for reference. Here is an article that may interest you: 5 things to check before going on holiday with your credit card travel insurance (in French).
– Even if you choose your credit card insurance for the first 3 months of your stay, you must still subscribe to Globe WHV Light before leaving your home country for the following months. The subscription must be made before departure, even if the contract only starts on the 91st day of the trip.
– Any accident or illness occurring during the first part of the trip will not be covered by Globe WHV Light, nor will its consequences. For example, in the event of an accident during the first 90 days of the trip, if you need ongoing care that continues into the part of the trip insured by Globe WHV Light, the contract will not be able to cover it, as this care will be considered a pre-existing condition.

6
Is it possible to pay the premium monthly rather than all at once?

No, it is not possible to pay your Globe WHV Light travel insurance premium monthly.

7
Is it possible to extend my Globe WHV Light contract?

If you stay in the country after the end date of your initial contract, still on a WHV, contact the ACS Customer Service as early as possible to ask whether subscribing to a new Globe WHV Light insurance is possible (about ten days before your contract’s end date). If your request is accepted, there must be no interruption between the 2 contracts.

8
If I extend my stay after my WHV, can I subscribe to a new insurance if I am not insured locally?

Contact the ACS Customer Service about ten days before your Globe WHV Light contract expires so they can review your request and see whether insurance solutions are possible for the rest of your stay abroad.
Reminder: in many countries, you must purchase your insurance for the total duration of your WHV.

9
Does Globe WHV Light insurance cover me if I drive a vehicle abroad?

Your medical expenses will be covered if you are involved in a road accident, within the general terms and conditions of the contract. However, Globe WHV Light does not replace the mandatory vehicle insurance. Our contract does not include automobile civil liability, so you will need to purchase appropriate insurance if you buy or rent a vehicle.

10
Does Globe WHV Light insurance cover luggage theft during my stay?

No, Globe WHV Light does not cover your luggage, either during your outbound/return trip or during your WHV stay.

11
I am not French or Belgian. Can I still subscribe to Globe WHV Light?

Of course, as long as your nationality corresponds to the countries with which WHV agreements have been signed. If you cannot find your situation in the subscription engine, contact ACS.

12
I am going abroad as a WHV holder. Which document should I present at the airport in case of a check?

The official document is the insurance certificate sent to you by e-mail after payment of your subscription, which includes your first and last name, the duration of your stay and your subscription number.

13
How do I insure a couple?

Globe WHV Light is purchased individually. For a couple, you therefore need to take out 2 contracts.

14
In the event of an early return, am I refunded for the unused months?

No, you cannot be refunded for unused months. This is however possible with the standard Globe WHV contract.

15
Can I subscribe now, even though I am not leaving for several months?

Yes, of course! The subscription date and the effective date of the contract can be different. Payment is made on the day of subscription, but the coverage only starts on the chosen day.

16
If I travel to another country, am I also covered?

Once your WHV is activated, the Globe WHV Light contract covers you only in your WHV country. If you plan to travel to other countries during your WHV stay, we recommend the Globe WHV contract, which can cover you during your trips around the world.

17
Which sports are not covered by Globe WHV Light?

Globe WHV Light does not cover certain sports, in particular bobsleigh, skeleton, mountaineering, competitive luge, aerial sports except parasailing, jet skiing, combat sports, off-piste board and ski sports, as well as all sports practised in official matches or competitions. See the information booklet at the bottom of this page for more details.

18
Where can I find insurance for the sports that are not covered?

Generally, the clubs that organise these sports offer insurance specific to that activity.

19
I have other questions. Who can I ask?

If this FAQ has not answered your questions, feel free to ask the Globe WHV Light advisors via private message.

1
Can I see any doctor, without prior authorisation?

Yes, you can go to any doctor or clinic; no prior authorisation is required. If you don’t know which doctor to see or want to know more about coverage, feel free to contact the assistance platform at the number shown on your insurance certificate.

2
For medical expense claims, where should I send doctors’ invoices and prescriptions?

For claims under €500, please use our online form.

For claims over €500, send them to: A.C.S. Service Médical – A l’attention du médecin-conseil, 153 rue de l’Université 75007 Paris. Only original documents are accepted. To learn more about the medical expense claim procedure, you can download this form.

3
For medical care, do I have to pay the costs upfront myself?

There are 2 scenarios:

For outpatient care (no hospitalisation), you do have to pay the medical costs upfront and then send your claim to ACS, directly online for claims under €500 or, for higher amounts, by post using the dedicated form.

In the event of hospitalisation (at least one night in hospital), contact the assistance platform available 24/7, which will send a coverage agreement to the hospital where you are and pay your bill directly. You will find the assistance platform’s number on your insurance certificate.

4
What should I do in the event of hospitalisation?

If you stay in hospital for more than 24 hours, you can contact the VYV International Assistance platform, available 24/7 at the number shown on your insurance certificate or by e-mail at: [email protected]. The assistance platform will then monitor your hospitalisation.

5
Does Globe WHV Light travel insurance cover work accidents?

Globe WHV Light is first and foremost a travel insurance contract. However, in the context of an internship or a job, it will cover medical expenses resulting from a work accident (within the general terms and conditions of the contract).

6
I want to subscribe to Globe WHV Light, but I suffer from a chronic condition that requires daily medication and a monthly blood test. What should I do?

You must contact the medical officer of the ACS Medical Department to declare your situation via [email protected] before subscribing.

7
Does Globe WHV Light insurance cover medical expenses related to an illness or accident that occurred before my insurance effective date?

Globe WHV Light does not cover medical expenses resulting from conditions that predate your contract’s effective date. See the full information booklet/general terms and conditions to learn more.
