11Useful websites

New Zealand universities websites

To find out more about the cost of living in New Zealand, you can visit university websites, which often devote one or more pages to the cost of living in their city. As New Zealanders often have a budget similar to that of students, you will be able to find useful information. Here are a few examples:

Numbeo

Numbeo is a world-renowned website that lets you find out more about the cost of living in cities around the world. Based on user contributions, you can find out the prices charged in New Zealand cities: average prices and price variations. With just a few clicks, you can easily find information about the city you’re interested in.

Government websites

Several government websites also contain a wealth of information that may be useful in assessing the cost of living in New Zealand:

  • For jobs, visit Careers New-Zealand and its Job Database. You can find out more about job opportunities in the various professional sectors. The job descriptions provide a wealth of information, including salaries (per hour, per year, or both).
  • For housing, the website of the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment devotes a page to rental market prices in New Zealand.. You can select the region, city and district in which you want to live and check the prices charged there. If you have a flat in mind, don’t hesitate to consult this site to check that the rent charged is fair (the site does not, however, include charges such as Internet, water or electricity).
  • The New Zealand Immigration website also provides information (and links) on the cost of living for new arrivals on this page.
