Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan (AHCIP)
Temporary residents, such as IEC permit holders, can apply for Alberta Health Care within three months of settling in Calgary. You will need to fill out a form and bring your passport, proof of residence and your permit to your nearest participating registry.
Health and repatriation insurance is mandatory to obtain your IEC permit upon arrival in Canada. Repatriation is not covered by provincial insurance. Also, AHCIP will not cover all medical expenses, such as medicine. Private insurance therefore remains mandatory for the entire duration of your stay in Canada.
