Sheep

The New Zealand sheep population is impressive: there are approximately 30 million sheep compared to 4.79 million human inhabitants (data from 2017).

Blue duck

The blue duck (whio) is featured on one side of the New Zealand $10 bill. The blue duck population is currently estimated at just 2,500 individuals. Their disappearance is notably linked to destruction of their habitat and competition with other animals eating the same food source.

Alpaca

Sought after for their wool, it is common to come across alpacas in New Zealand.
