Applying for a Kiwi Access Card

Here are the documents required to apply for a Kiwi Access Card:

• the application form, available to download on Kiwi Access,
• 2 recent passport-style photos (taken within the last 12 months),
• a New Zealand address (to receive your card),
• a valid identity document (such as your passport).

You will also need to pay the $75 application fee.

Steps 1 and 2: Photos and Your Details

You must provide a passport-style identity photo. You are allowed to smile, as this is not a biometric identification document. Make sure your face is uncovered.

If applicable, you must explain why you wear headwear (such as a veil or turban). If you wear one for religious reasons, simply state this reason. If you do not wear any, leave this section blank.

Remember that you may regularly need to present this card in bars or restaurants if you wish to purchase alcohol. You should therefore be easily recognisable.

Step 3: Where do you want your card delivered to?

Provide a New Zealand address as well as your email address.

Proof of address is required. However, your name does not need to appear on the proof of address. You may provide one of the following documents:

• a New Zealand bank statement, or a document issued by the New Zealand government showing the address
• a gas, electricity or phone bill from New Zealand
• a letter from an employer or educational institution in New Zealand

Step 4: Proof of who you are

Select the type of identity document you have brought with you (most likely your passport). You only need to complete either section a or section b.

Step 5: Identifier statement

You only need to complete this section if you answered section 4b.

Steps 6 and 7: Privacy Acknowledgement and Declaration by the applicant

During these steps, you must read and accept the privacy protection conditions.

Take the time to read the declarations that you will be required to sign. These are statutory declarations that commit you before the New Zealand government.

Checklist and submitting the form

The final section of the form is a small checklist to ensure that you have not forgotten anything. There is also a section reserved for the branch that will stamp your application.

Then go to a NZ Post or AA office nearest to you to submit the form. Remember to bring your passport. The staff member will check that your application is complete.

You will need to pay $75 and the staff member will give you a receipt. Keep this receipt until you receive your card. Processing takes approximately 20 days.

What should you do if you have not received your card after this period?

Call 04 333 2834 or send an email to [email protected] explaining your situation. You can contact them Monday to Friday between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.

If they can find your details in the system and confirm that your card has already been issued, they will mail it out to you.
