Summary

1Introduction

If we’re being honest, the best part of a Working Holiday Visa in Australia is the “Holiday”. There is no better way to experience Australia than a road trip, especially the famous east coast drive. So, if you’re planning your Australian east coast travels, we’ve got just the thing for you!

Our road trip itineraries feature the east coast’s iconic landscapes, and they have all been tried and tested by pvtistes members on a working holiday. The itineraries range from 7 days (perfect for a quick break) to 4+ weeks (ideal for backpackers travelling at a slower pace).

Our itineraries give an indication of the most popular stops along each route, but feel free to adapt them according to your likes and dislikes and the amount of time you can afford to spend on the road.

Whichever route you choose, it’s time to pack up your car and set off to discover the beauty of Australia.

Before you leave…

Before hitting the road, make sure that your vehicle is properly registered and that the Rego is active for several weeks or even months. Don’t forget to take out suitable insurance. If you need to buy a vehicle for the big trip, check out our guide to Buying a car or van in Australia.

In Australia, there are also several apps that will help you have a successful road trip:

  • Wikicamps (AU$9.99 for a lifetime subscription): Covers useful information such as locations of campsites (including free camping), gas stations, showers, toilets, etc.
  • FuelMap Australia (free): Helps you locate the nearest gas stations and compare prices.
  • Park4night (free, with subscription option for additional services): Finds you free parking spots nearby.
