PEI is sometimes referred to as “Canada’s Food Island” because of the abundance of culinary experiences on the island. One of its most famous dishes is the lobster boil. The first lobster season runs from the start of May to the end of June, making this a prime time to visit for fresh lobster.
The other lobster season runs from mid-August until October. Although you will be battling more crowds if you visit during these months, summer is an ideal time to head to PEI. Your trip to PEI will be an outdoorsy one, as the island is most famous for its beaches, coastline and provincial parks. The island has variable weather for most of the year, so if you want some guaranteed sunshine, you will need to travel during the peak season of July–August.
Foodies will also want to consider travelling around the end of September to mid-October for PEI’s best festival, the PEI Fall Flavours Food & Drink Festival. This renowned festival brings together local chefs, producers and industry experts to showcase the best food the island has to offer. Other benefits of coming at this time are lower crowds and the chance to see the changing leaves, making PEI a solid choice for a fall destination.
