- Most travellers will fly into Saskatoon International Airport (YXE) or Regina International Airport (YQR)

Best time to visit
- May–September for indigenous culture
- September–October for aurora borealis
- December–February for wildlife watching and snow sports
Saskatchewan may not be on every traveller’s bucket list but it is worth visiting if you want to learn more about First Nations and the Métis peoples’ culture and history. Many of the museums close down in the winter months. Visit between May and September to ensure entry into sites like the Batoche National Historic Site (tells the story of the Métis people) and Wanuskewin Heritage Park (tipi sleepovers and cultural dinners only open during the summer).
If you want to see the northern lights without trekking to one of Canada’s most northern provinces/territories, Saskatchewan could be a good option for you. The strongest chances of seeing the aurora is from September to October, though sightings are also common throughout the winter. September or October is the best time to chase the northern lights if you want the better weather.
However, if you want a winter wonderland, December to February is the best time to travel to Saskatchewan. One of the benefits of visiting at this time of year is increased chances of seeing wildlife, as the lack of tree cover means elk, moose and bison are more exposed and easier to spot. Prince Albert National Park is one of the few places where you can still see wild bison in the Canadian prairies. The national park remains busy with snow sports such as kite skiing, ice skating and ice fishing on offer, plus the option for winter camping!
