Best time to visit
- March–April for maple syrup
- June for fishing
- September for fall and harvest season
Canada is famous for its maple syrup and New Brunswick is one of several provinces that contribute to the world’s maple production. Tapping season tends to last from mid-March to mid-April, when sugar shacks can open their doors to the public. You will get to see how the trees are tapped, how they harvest the sap and how they turn it into maple syrup. It’s also common for them to make maple taffy in the snow.
New Brunswick is also a favourite with anglers wanting to fish in the many different waters surrounding the province. If you’re looking to get into this sport, visit during the first weekend of June for Fish NB Days, when you can try fishing for free (you will need an angling licence the rest of the year). The types of fish you can catch in New Brunswick range from bass and trout in the rivers to salmon and stripers in the tides.
Fall is a popular time of year to head to New Brunswick. Its many farms run fall activities such as apple picking, corn mazes and wagon rides. The province even recommends a hops and harvest road trip, allowing you to sample various culinary delights from local producers. The best time to come and experience fall is in September, when your trip can coincide with the Harvest Music Festival, considered by many to be Atlantic Canada’s best music festival.
