5Where to find job openings

With your CV and cover letter ready, it is time to start searching and applying for posts. Here are some of the most commonly used platforms:

  • LinkedIn – Great for networking, skilled jobs, and international companies.
  • Indeed – Classic job search site home to many local opportunities, especially unskilled roles (i.e. not requiring specialized education or qualifications).
  • Welcome to the Jungle – Modern website layout featuring the team and culture of companies via videos and photos. Contains many French and European tech/startup opportunities.
  • HelloWork – A French platform of opportunities that contains a section for interim positions by city.
  • France Travail is the official job aid platform of the French state. Working holidayers are not entitled to government assistance such as employment pay.
  • Interim agencies – A few examples include Armonia, Manpower, Randstad, Adecco etc.

If you’re not fluent in French, these same resources still apply to you because a lot of English positions are posted there too. Additionally, you can also join Facebook groups themed around employment opportunities for expats.

Unsolicited applications

An unsolicited application is when a candidate reaches out directly to a company with his/her profile without responding to any public job posting. 75% of recruiters consult their bank of unsolicited applications when hiring needs arise. The advantage of unsolicited applications is that candidates can target companies that truly interest them. Before reaching out, do some research to see what specific needs or opportunities you can address for the company. Include your CV and cover letter as well.
