In order to legally work and be paid in New Zealand, you must obtain an Inland Revenue Department (IRD) number.
The request can be completed online and is free of charge. If you opt for your IRD number to be delivered via SMS or email, you may even receive a response in under 48 hours. For the SMS option, we recommend that you use a New Zealand number.
