8Finding a job in Calgary

You can start by reading our guide to Finding a job and working in Canada.

If you want to find a qualified job in your sector, it is best to have a good level of English. Being bilingual is not always essential, but some employers in Calgary see it as an asset, so be sure to mention if you can speak multiple languages.

If you already have professional experience in your field, you can use sites like LinkedIn and Indeed to try and find similar positions in your job search.

Alberta Supports is a service provided by the Government of Alberta that can help with employment, from job advertisements to resume-building and job interview workshops. The Calgary Public Library also offers career coaching on a first-come, first-served basis.

Volunteering in Calgary

Volunteering is recommended as a way of getting your foot in the door with a Canadian company. As well as being able to gain professional experience, volunteering is a great way to build a Canadian network or to make like-minded friends.

The City of Calgary advertises both seasonal and year-round volunteering opportunities on their website.
