After some time, you suddenly realise that you feel completely integrated in your home culture again. You can now see each culture in a positive light. You are appreciative of your WHV and understand how lucky you are to have had this experience. You know part of your WHV country will live with you forever, but you don’t resent returning home.
Of course, if you struggle with integration into life at home, you can always decide to go on another WHV!
Possible emotions you might experience in the integration phase
- Feeling complete
- Flourishing
- Self-confidence
- Sense of belonging
- Excitement for the future
Examples
“My pounamu necklace from New Zealand will never leave my neck.”
“My friends are used to me using phrases from a different language.”
“I love cooking Mexican cuisine for my family after my WHV in Mexico.”
What you can do to manage your emotions in the integration phase
Enjoy your life at home… or maybe plan a new trip!
