Finally, over time, you feel at home in your new environment, as much as in your original culture. You’re at peace with the journey you’ve been on, and you enjoy the integration into their culture. You know a part of their culture will remain with you, even when you leave.
You don’t value one culture over another. You think objectively about your own culture. Yes, homesickness may always return, but you don’t prioritise your own cultural behaviours. In your new environment, you begin to feel like you belong; you appreciate the culture you are now a part of. Life is easier.
Acceptance and finding peace in your new home does not necessarily mean that you understand every single aspect of your new culture. Rather, it means that you’re still thriving in the new environment, despite not understanding everything.
Possible emotions you might experience once you’re at peace
