If you have a driver’s licence and are planning a road trip during your working holiday abroad, it may make sense to apply for an international driving permit (IDP).
Indeed, your national driver’s licence may not be valid abroad, or it may only be valid for a certain period of time (and it may look very unfamiliar to local rental car agencies and law enforcement officers!).
Find out in advance of leaving home if an international driving permit is mandatory or simply recommended in your WHV destination. It is easier to apply for an IDP while you are still at home, rather than when you are already travelling.
Note that if your national driver’s licence isn’t in English, you must have it translated and carry the translation with you, as well as the IDP.
