7Networking and job fairs

LinkedIn

When you first get to France, you likely won’t know very many people. That is why it can be helpful to create a LinkedIn if you don’t already have one. Make sure your personal information is accurate, such as your location, so that recruiters can find your profile. Identify and follow companies that interest you and see if you have any common connections with current employees. Don’t be shy to reach out and build connections, or activate notifications for relevant job titles. By doing this, you can gradually learn more about the French market of your desired field.

Job fairs

There are job fairs organized throughout France. These events allow you to meet recruiters and other employees in various fields, and learn about openings. You can find them on Google by searching “job fair + city”. We list a few below.

Before attending a job fair, make sure to print and bring a few updated copies of your CV. That way if you come across an interesting company or role at the event, you can give a copy directly to the representative. It is also helpful to practice how to effectively pitch yourself.

Paris pour l’emploi (Paris for work)

Paris pour l’emploi is the biggest job fair in France. Its goal is to match job seekers with recruiters. It also includes conferences and workshops.

Le Village des Recruteurs (Village of recruiters)

Le Village des Recruteurs is a gathering of many recruiters from different fields. It is open to all job seekers. Several events are organized throughout the year.

Le Salon Jeunes d’Avenir (Youth of the future)

This job fair targets youth looking for work, training, or career resources. Every year, young people are able to meet representatives from various companies. The age range for participation is 15 to 25 years old. See their upcoming events.

Les Forums Initialis Paris emploi

This event is geared toward individuals looking for work in the commercial sector. Events are held in February, April, June and September. Check their website for the official calendar.

Word of mouth

Word of mouth is a good way of learning about opportunities around you. For example, when doing apartment visits or attending meetups, you can guide the conversation naturally to mention that you are looking for work. You never know who you might be talking to and who can help you out.
