It is almost time to start your adventure in New Zealand! You’ve got your Working Holiday Visa, savings put aside, purchased your insurance, booked your flight and packed your bag… there are just a few small steps left before you’re ready to begin your adventure!
Before going through immigration, you have to fill in your New Zealand Traveller Declaration. This form tells the New Zealand authorities whether you have products to declare, if you have been hiking recently (or if you are bringing hiking equipment), or if you have been in contact with farm animals. You will also need to declare if you have spent any time in a particular country in the months leading up to your trip. These questions may seem trivial, but they help ensure New Zealand’s biosecurity.
You should complete the form online or on the app up to 24 hours before arrival in the country (and you absolutely must have completed the form by the time you arrive at passport control). The procedure should not take more than 10 minutes. We will show you how to fill in your New Zealand Traveller Declaration in this tutorial.
Before we start, make sure you have the following information handy:
- your passport, contact details and details of your flight or sea voyage
- your immigration status (i.e. your visa)
- details of any recent trips, including layovers
- items you are bringing to New Zealand.
