You have obtained an e-visa linked to your passport. If you change your passport before leaving for New Zealand, you must contact the New Zealand authorities to inform them of the change.
Below is the procedure described on the authorities’ website.
Go to this page from the New Zealand authorities website. Make sure you have your documents close by:
- a copy of your old passport OR, if you no longer have a passport, a copy of the police report stating that your passport has been lost or stolen
- a copy of your new passport
- (if your name has changed in the meantime) proof of your name change (e.g. a marriage certificate if you have decided to take your spouse’s name).
Since 2023, certified copies are no longer required.
You must then complete this form. At the bottom of the page, confirm that you are not a New Zealand citizen. The form will then be displayed automatically and you can submit it directly online once completed. You will receive confirmation of your passport change within two weeks.

Hi Pamela,
Thank you for this helpful tutorial! I sent off my application a couple of days ago but am a bit worried that I didn’t receive an email confirmation to say this. I’d previously received an email when I created a log in several months ago. Did you get a confirmation email or do you know if we’re meant to?
Thank you!
Michelle
Hi Michelle, Immigration New Zealand is not the greatest at updating people. Sometimes, people don’t even realize their visa has been approved. The best thing to do is to check your visa status on your immigration profile 🙂
Best of luck,
Pamela
Thank you so much for your reply. I got an email today saying my application has been approved. Yay!
Congratulations!!! Let the adventure begin 😀
