All IEC permit holders must buy a health insurance policy for the entire duration of their stay in Canada. It must cover medical care, hospitalisation and repatriation. Proof of insurance will be required upon arriving in Canada; otherwise, you may not be granted the full length of your permit.
Your spouse, common-law partner and/or kids also need health insurance, even if they aren’t IEC Working Holiday, Young Professional or International Co-op permit holders. This is just common sense—as temporary residents, nobody is eligible for healthcare coverage through the local insurance system. Besides, your home country won’t cover your health expenses abroad—you’re on your own.
Most WHV health insurance companies don’t offer a “family plan,” so coverage must be purchased for each member travelling to Canada.
Pvtistes.net has been recommending Globe WHV insurance since 2005!
