Buying health insurance for the whole family
All Working Holiday permit holders must buy a health insurance policy for the entire duration of their stay in Canada. It must cover medical care, hospitalization and repatriation. Proof of insurance will be required upon arriving in Canada.
But your spouse, common-law partner and/or kids also need health insurance, even if they aren’t Working Holiday permit holders. This is just common sense—as temporary residents, none of you is eligible for healthcare coverage through the local insurance system. Besides, your home country won’t cover your health expenses abroad—you’re on your own.
Most Working Holiday permit insurers don’t offer a “family plan,” so coverage must be purchased for each member travelling to Canada.
