Minimum savings of $334.92 over 3 years

You can save at least $334.92 over 3 years if you meet all the following conditions:

$334.92 savings over 3 years:

  • Year 1: No flat monthly fee (save $15.95/month for 12 months)
  • Year 2: A flat monthly fee of $7.98 instead of $15.95 (save $7.97/month for 12 months)
  • Year 3: A flat monthly fee of $11.96 instead of $15.95 (save $3.99/month for 12 months)

The monthly fee of $15.95 for your banking package will be charged as of the fourth year. To be eligible for this savings, you must maintain the account and package for at least 36 months. You will no longer qualify for the discount if you don’t keep these products.

  • Set up direct deposit in your National Bank account and receive your salary in the account at least once a month or
  • Make at least two electronic bill payments monthly from this account.

The $671.30 savings over 3 years means the following fees will not be charged:

  • The fee for your first order of cheques ($67.10/order)
  • Account statements by mail free of charge for the first year ($30)

Decrease of the savings

To benefit from the full savings amount, you must maintain all those products and services and carry out the qualifying transactions for at least 36 months, unless otherwise indicated. If you don’t meet the conditions of the offer, your savings will be lower. If you don’t make your first cheque order, your savings will be lower.

Furthermore, if during any given month, you maintain your account and package but you don’t maintain one of the other products and services or if you don’t carry out the required transactions (for example if you make one bill payment instead of two), the Bank will charge you the service fee for the month. The monthly fee will be $7.98/month the second year and $11.96/month the third year. You will still benefit from a discount of $7.97/month the second year and $3.99/month the third year.

Good morning

I would like to open an account but I don’t want a credit card and a debit card is enough for me

to benefit from the $100 offer that an eligible transaction signifies. What do you mean by transaction?
Thanks for your help

Hello Alexandre!
By this we mean any debit transaction made to the account (such as a bill payment or a pre-authorized debit). Please feel free to message us if you have any further questions, are we here for you?

I learned about the Canadian banking system from my friends who live in Montreal and by reading information.
I understood the principle of living on credit and repaying in order to have a credit history.
I saw that with the National Bank, we had no bank fees the 1st year and that the following years there are (7.98/m the 2nd year, 11.96/month the 3rd year and 15.96/month at from the 4th year).
But I saw on the site that the Synchro card costs 35/year or 2.92/month in bank charges. So is it more advantageous to take that rather than the pvtiste offer?
Can you explain to me what the purchase interest rate and the balance and funds transfer rate correspond to, please?
Thank you very much ^^

Good morning,
Indeed, with our offer for new arrivals you have free bank charges for a period of 3 years under a few conditions that are quite simple to meet, namely:
1- Open a bank account in one of our branches
2- Join the offer for new arrivals
Before the end of the first year following your membership of the offer for new arrivals:
3- Sign up for an eligible National Bank Mastercard® personal credit card2 and activate it
4- Join the electronic bank statement
During the second and third year following your membership of the offer for newcomers
5- Register your salary deposit in the bank account you hold in one of our branches, and have your salary deposited there at least once a month; Or
6- Pay electronically at least two bills per month from this bank account.

I invite you to refer to our website if you would like more information on this subject.

As for the credit card, interest applies if you do not repay the amounts used on time (this will be specified on your MasterCard statement). The cards eligible for the offer are as follows: mycredit, MC1, Allure, Syncro, Platinum, Echo discount, World and World Elite. (ref website bnc.ca).
You will have NO fees on all of these cards.

I invite you to contact me by PM if you have any further questions.

Good day,

Vanessa

I would add that the offer on PVTiste is the same as on our website except that by subscribing to our offer via pvtistes you will have a “gift” of 100 CAD offered to your bank account, if you complete the following conditions: Join our Internet banking solutions and our online account statement service by accessing via the link on pvtistes.net.
Carry out an eligible transaction (account interest and banking plan fees charged to the account are not considered transactions).
You have 120 days following account opening to meet all the conditions of the offer in order to obtain the cash back.

The remittance will be made into your National Bank of Canada checking account no later than 150 days following the opening of the checking account.

Good morning,
I am taking the liberty of writing to you because I plan to come to Canada next week and I was planning to open an online bank account before my arrival.
I don’t know if the deadline is short (open an account 1 week before) and whether the procedures take longer once you arrive in Canada?
Also, as a pvtist, when registering in “CRS-FATCA Regulatory Information”, we are considered ”
I am a resident of Canada for tax purposes” or ”
I am a resident of a country other than Canada and the United States for tax purposes”?
Thank you in advance for your help : )

Hello Miriam,

The delay is acceptable, you can pre-open your account now.
For FATCA, you must indicate that “I am a resident of a country other than Canada and the United States for tax purposes”
I hope I have answered your question and do not hesitate to contact me via PM if you have any further questions.
Good day,

Vanessa

Good morning,

I compare what is most interesting between Desjardins Bank and National Bank.

For the National Bank I wonder about:
– what credit card is offered for newcomers?
– are there fees on the purchase interest rate and the balance and funds transfer rate on the newcomer credit card?
– Can you choose your own credit card?
– What is the Purchase Interest Rate and the Balance and Funds Transfer Rate?

I noticed that a Synchro credit card has more advantageous annual fees, purchase and transfer rates than an MC1 or Macredit credit card which is free all year round but with purchase and transfer rates. higher transfer.

Good morning,
The cards that are included in the offer for New Arrivals are the following: mycredit, MC1, Allure, Syncro, Platinum, Echo discount, World and World Elite (see details on our website)
You won’t have any fees on the credit card as long as you repay the money used on the card before the due date.
We can communicate via PM if you wish.

Good morning
I just arrived in Montreal 2 days ago and I am looking to open a bank account either with BNC or with Desjardins, I am still hesitant knowing that I have looked again and again at the differences between the two banks but I still don’t know what to choose,

What I would like is to have a debit card (to begin with) no credit (I’ll see later) without bank charges (I saw the offers they offer for both 2 years for Desjardins and 3 years for bnc) with which I can spend for my daily expenses in stores of all kinds WITHOUT FEES
Then I can make transfers from my French account to my Canadian account and vice versa (while waiting for me to have a job and therefore a salary) WITHOUT FEES

That there is this bank almost everywhere in all of Canada 🙂
And that I can withdraw money if necessary throughout Canada in the same ATM and free of charge and if it is not the same bank counter if it is free of charge and if this is not the case how many fees they would take?

And the same to know if in other countries by using my debit card in shops etc. are there any fees particularly in the United States because I plan to go there soon?

Thank you for taking the time to read this long message and if you can recommend one of the two banks because I don’t know what to choose and I want to do it quickly

Good morning,

Unlike Desjardins, the National Bank of Canada is present throughout Canada.

You can open your bank account within 3 months before your arrival in Canada and make a first and only transfer from your account in France to your account in Canada. Once there you can do as much as you want. You will have a fixed fee of 20 CAD for a transfer from France to Canada and a fee of 5.95 CAD for transfers from Canada to France. I advise you to make grouped transfers, i.e. one “large” transfer each time, in order to reduce costs.
Please note that if you open your pvtistes life account you will benefit from 100 CAD in your bank account, i.e. 5 “free” transfers from France to Canada.

For other information we can talk via PM.

THANKS,

Vanessa

Good morning,
Having had a bank account for almost a year under PVT, opening the BNC account went very well BUT now that I want to build a budget, save and finance my projects, the services are very limited for budget monitoring :
– no synchronization possible with budget tracking applications (e.g. mint or wallet)
– no Excel extraction possible
– no scoring possible in the application to check the expenses taken into account (entered manually in tricount for example).
A budget construction service exists but without the associated monitoring, it is insufficient to get your bearings.
It is a shame that these fairly basic services offered by other banks do not exist. I hope that the BNC will be able to integrate these services quickly.

Hello Sir,

I am sorry to learn that you are disappointed with the tools offered by the National Bank.
However, I invite you to talk about it with your advisor, he will probably be able to help you in your efforts.

Our application, however, allows you to do many things.
You can consult our “demo” page if you wish: https://demo.bnc.ca/fr/home

Hello, We are hesitant to open an account at the BNC, you have to register 2 months before, we are no longer on schedule given that we are arriving on February 15 in Toronto.
Can you also confirm that the mastercard credit card is issued without credit history? And if so, how soon can we have it?

Thank you
Very good day

Good morning,
You can pre-open your account within 3 months before your departure, so you are on time :).
During your appointment at the branch, we will offer you the credit card, and it will necessarily have no credit history because you are not on Canadian territory. You will obtain the card within 5 to 7 days.
I hope everything is to your convenience,
Good day,
Vanessa

Good morning,

I have pre-opened my account and made an appointment online at a branch. Everything was done easily 🙂

I had a question about receiving the debit card. I have an appointment at the branch on 02/09 and I then leave on 02/18 for a woofing. I would have no fixed address in Canada. How soon is the card sent? How to do without a fixed address?

Also, is it obligatory to take the credit card? Because I don’t want it.

thank you for your information
Sincerely

Vanessa

Good morning,
I am following up on your message.
The debit card will be given to you on the day you are identified at the branch. As for the credit card, you can ask to collect it directly from the branch. The card will be available within 5 to 7 days after ordering it.
The credit card allows you to build your credit history in Canada and it is essential. Without it, you will not be able to book plane tickets, make online purchases or apply for credit.
If you need more information, do not hesitate to write to me privately.
Good day,
Vanessa

I second my colleague Vanessa! Small clarification, however: although I also believe that it is essential for your daily banking operations, the credit card is not obligatory. You can discuss this during your appointment and choose the option that suits you best! ^Gab

Hello Vanessa and the BNC 🙂
Thank you for your answers !
I don’t need the credit card because:
– I do not want to live on credit and am against this system
– beyond that, I don’t need it for my daily operations: I don’t have accommodation to find locally, I don’t buy my plane tickets with it or go shopping online… I have another card for this and I would like to avoid accumulating and ending up with as many cards as possible that I could lose. My goal is to have the essentials

It was to know if it was mandatory meaning to have the $100 offer as it is indicated that you have to subscribe to banking solutions but I don’t know what is behind that, if my credit card in fact left to benefit from the offer 🙂
THANKS !

Good morning,
Let me intervene to tell you that in Canada the credit card is not obligatory but it is recommended, you will need it in particular to buy plane tickets or make your purchases online.
If you want more details on the Canadian banking system do not hesitate to contact me by private message and I will talk to you by phone about the banking differences and what the credit card allows you to do and have.
I remain at your disposal,

Hello Vanessa,

Thanks for your feedback ! As said in my previous post, I don’t need to make any online purchases or buy plane tickets or anything with this credit card. This account will be used to receive my salary and make current expenses such as food, nothing else. So I don’t want to have multiple bank cards because I would already have 3 without counting the credit card. These are all cards that risk loss/theft and I want to limit the things that will be useless to me.
Thanks for your advice though 🙂
Yours sincerely

I therefore conclude that you do not want to build a credit history with a view to staying in Canada, and therefore that you will not stay in Canada after your working holiday.

Please note that if you change your mind, you can discuss it with your BNC advisor.

I still invite you to read the following articles on our website: https://www.bnc.ca/particuliers/conseils/credit/carte-debit-vs-credit.html

Good installation in Canada.

That’s exactly it, I don’t need a credit history because I’m not looking for accommodation for my working holiday and don’t want to settle in Canada at the end of my working holiday either.
Otherwise, in fact, I would have had no choice if I had this project and it is good that you clarify it even for other people who read us and who might ask the question.
Thank you for all your details and information.
