Hello, I just opened my online student bank account for Canada. I would like to have the details of obtaining the bank cards, and also to ask you if I can apply for financial assistance or a scholarship for the fall studies 2021. I am in Ivory Coast currently.
Thank you for helping me.
Hello Renaud, you can get your credit card and apply for financing when you arrive in Canada only, by going to a branch.
Hello, I was able to be part of the Newcomers program from December 2019 until June 2020. Everything was perfect, credit card, perfect customer service etc. When I return to France, I find myself with a monthly fee of $ 7 which corresponds to the monthly fee of the program (obviously, since I no longer used the bank account in Canada, no transaction was made there since I did not ‘was there more physically). I try to close it and I am told that it is necessary to be physically present in a branch (impossible for me to take a plane just to close an account …). Could someone help me? Thank you 🙂
Kimi, first of all, thank you for your testimony. In general, closing an account requires in-person identification, for security reasons. The ideal is to go to one of our branches (any one!) In order to close the account before returning to France or elsewhere.
As for the $ 7.48 fee, they correspond to the offer we made to you: if you do not subscribe to certain products and services (personal credit card, online statement, salary deposit or electronic payment of two bills per month) before the start of the second year, you still get a 50% discount on the banking package (which corresponds to $ 7.48).
Of course, given the current situation, and since I want to help you, I invite you to write to me in private so that I can give you the coordinates (email, phone) of your branch. It will be possible to close the account by making sure to validate your identity. Thank you!

Hello, I am trying to register but I cannot find the nearest bank to my future accommodation in the proposed branches.
BANK ABSOLUTELY AVOID !!
This bank does not allow you to have a Mastercard credit card.
I had to take 2 days off to go to the agency to fill out the form twice because their employee was not able to do it remotely.
After 2 weeks, I receive a letter from mastercard saying that I do not meet the criteria although I have a fairly decent salary paid on it every month in addition to the 5-digit Transfermate deposit.
In addition, you have a limit of 3000 dollars per day so impossible to buy a car in 1 day … (or you have to go to the agency during working hours, still pay for a bank check)
Fortunately, I kept my French bank. So go to RBC or TD, the customer service is much better.
Hello Sylvain. I’m sorry the experience did not live up to your expectations. Customers generally have the option of applying for a credit card directly online (https://www.bnc.ca/particuliers/cartes-credit-mastercard.html), but your presence may be required to reasons for identification. Regarding the refusal letter, I suggest you contact the number that appears therein to find out the exact reasons for such a decision. Finally, for security reasons, the limit is indeed set at $ 3000 outside per day; the purchase of a car is usually paid for by a bank draft, which can be given to you in just a few minutes at any branch.
Please do not hesitate to get back to me if you have more questions. ^ Julien
Hi Sylvain,
To buy a car, in general you can ask for a certified check in the banks and it is obtained in 10 minutes;)
Hello,
I filled the form online, no more success because you need an identification, it is for this reason that I had to go to an agency.
And the agent was not able to do better, twice!
(1 time in Toronto and 1 time in Kitchener)
As for the Mastercard number, after 30 minutes of waiting, I gave up.
I find it abnormal that it is my role to call the Mastercard service and not your agent to solve this problem?

Hello,
Just a little check: it’s not possible to take advantage of this offer if we ever want to use this account as a joint account, right?
Thanks in advance 🙂
Indeed, you must be the only user of the account.
Hello, I have two questions in order to complete the already very comprehensive information you have given:
– What is considered an “eligible transaction” in order to benefit from the $ 50 rebate?
– After making a first cash deposit in the account, can I make a transfer via TransferWise or TransferMate? Or does the first transfer, even after making a cash deposit, have to go through a financial institution?
Thanks in advance for you answers.
Hello Isabelle, an eligible transaction is any transaction that is not a bank charge.
You will be able to make a transfer from your Canadian bank account only after you arrive in Canada, the opening must be completed in person for you to be able to make a transfer. You can then use the platform of your choice.
So if I understand correctly, if I paid, for example, to top up my Opus transport card, this is considered a transaction. Thank you for your reply.
Exactly, the payment of the opus card is considered a transaction.

Hello,
I have just arrived in Montreal and I am studying the newcomer offer with BNC and pavtsite. I have some questions:
– the offer is for 3 years however if I wish to cancel the account beforehand, is this possible free of charge?
– if I understood the offer correctly: at least during the first 2 years, I have no fixed monthly costs provided that I order a credit card as soon as the account is opened, that I choose this checking account for the payment of my wages and that I request the statements online?
– when opening an account is a minimum deposit of money required?
– finally the offer of the 50 dollars paid will be on our account after 3 months? how to benefit from this?
Thanks for your feedback
cordially
Anna
Good morning anna,
The newcomer offer is valid for a period of 3 years. Your account will be completely free for 3 years if you meet all the conditions you set out. Note that you can close your account at any time free of charge. When you go to open your account we do not ask for a minimum amount to be paid into it, you are free to fund your account with the amount you want.
To benefit from the 50 CAD on your bank account you must use the link on this page, the offer will be made automatically and the money will be credited to your account within 3 months.
I hope I have answered your questions and remain available if you have other questions.
Have a good day,
Vanessa
I want to open investment account and deposit 10,000 CAD to apply for my student visa, This money is treated as proof of funds and would be released to the student every month for 12 months for their study abroad and maintenance expenses along with interest. Please advise here ?
This is not something we offer.
Hi, can I open a blocked account in your bank for my future studies when I apply for a student visa?
My nationality is not an Indian or a Chinese because most banks in Canada help only Indian and Chinese to open blocked accounts to help them with the visa process in Canada.
My question, what are the nationalities you help to open a blocked account in your bank
Hello, we do not offer that type of product. You can start the account opening process 3 months before you come to Canada. Then you will have to visit a branch to finalize the opening.
