6Finding accommodation in Calgary

Temporary accommodation in Calgary

Youth hostels are an economical form of accommodation and perfect for your first few days or weeks in the city. They also allow you to meet other people who have just arrived, which is ideal for starting to build your network!

If a youth hostel doesn’t appeal to you, consider booking a room at a hotel or on an accommodation rental platform like Airbnb.

Renting in Calgary

To look for a rental or shared accommodation, you can find offers on these main sites:

To find a roommate, try local Facebook groups or roomies.ca.

You can also go to the neighbourhoods where you want to live and walk around looking for “For rent” adverts, which are often displayed outside properties or in shop windows.

If you have a car, make sure you have access to a parking space. Consider getting one that is heated or comes with a plug for the winter. If you don’t have a car, check that you are located near a CTrain or bus station, less than 10 minutes from home (essential for walking there in winter).
