9Sports in Montreal

Hockey is Quebec’s national sport. Montrealers take to the streets to celebrate the local team, the Montreal Canadiens. To watch a hockey game at the Bell Centre will cost you; fortunately, most bars in town broadcast the big games.

You can immerse yourself in North American sports culture: now is the perfect time to try out roller derby, baseball or Canadian football.

For swimmers, the good news is there are lots of swimming pools in Montreal that are free! There are also numerous clubs you can join, from handball to badminton and football. Look up your local clubs and events once you have settled in a particular neighbourhood. The Club Montreal Sport & Social (CMSS) or the Sports à Montréal association offer a large number of team sports.

Of course, most people will also go to the gym. Éconofitness is one of the most economical brands.

Finally, don’t forget one of Montreal’s winter specials: the numerous outdoor ice rinks! You can even put on your snowshoes at Mount Royal or go cross-country skiing at Lafontaine Park.
