Go to Canada, eat poutine

Poutine often comes up as the one and only Canadian specialty. In fact, it’s mostly an Eastern Canada treat, although you can probably find it all over the country.

It’s basically a dish of fries smothered in gravy and topped with cheese curds. Quebecers are serious about poutine—pvtistes members in Montreal recommend La Banquise. A number of events feature poutine, including La Poutine Week in Montreal or the Ottawa Poutine Fest.

That’s a great thread Canada really has an underrated food scene. I noticed a lot of people mentioning local specialties, but it’s also interesting how travelers still look for familiar, budget-friendly options in between trying new dishes. When I was planning meals on a trip, checking menus with prices ahead of time helped a lot, something like Jack in the Box Menu with Prices Deals & Combos Updated 2026 gives that idea of planning smart without overspending while traveling.
