Celebrate Canada Day and provincial holidays

On July 1, Canada celebrates “Canada Day,” the national day. This date was chosen because, on July 1, 1867, the British North America Act (today known as the Constitution Act) created Canada.
The biggest festivities are in Ottawa, the national capital, but Canada Day is celebrated coast to coast with shows and concerts, speeches, flag ceremonies, parades, activities, fireworks and more.
Every province and territory also celebrates a national day. Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day (on June 24) is very popular in Quebec with plenty of concerts and fireworks across the province (just as well, since Quebec is busy moving on July 1, locally known as “moving day”!), August 15 is National Acadian Day in the Maritimes to celebrate the cultural vitality and enduring heritage of the Acadian people—check out the Festival acadien de Caraquet in New Brunswick or one of the many “grands tintamarres” where Acadians make as much noise as possible!
