Applying for a proof of age card
Instead of carrying your passport around, you can apply for a Proof of age card and use it as a piece of photo ID in Australia. These cards typically show your name, address, date of birth and photo.
Each state/territory has its own application process, but the cards are recognized throughout Australia:
- NSW photo card (New South Wales)
- Proof of age card (Australian Capital Territory)
- Proof of age card (South Australia)
- Personal information card (Tasmania)
- Proof of age card – 18+ card (Queensland)
- Evidence of age card (Northern Territory)
- Proof of age card (Western Australia)
- Proof of age card (Victoria)
Note that in a few states/territories, the application process can be challenging for newcomers. For instance, in Victoria, someone who has known you for a minimum of 12 months and who is listed on the electoral roll must complete and sign the “Referee’s declaration.”
