International Windsor Fringe Festival


Jul 16, 2010 to Jul 25, 2010 - A 10 day performing arts event, where live theatre and other performing arts such as: Music, Visual art, Chalk artists and more, are presented in an informal, accessible and low cost environment. Fringe Theatre was first staged over 50 years ago by theatre groups who were not allowed to participate in Scotland’s prestigious Edinburgh Theatre Festival. These groups performed on the ’fringe’ or the outskirts of the city of Edinburgh and ’Fringe Theatre’ was born. This type of festival has become so popular that there is now a ’Fringe of the Fringe’ in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Jul 30, 2010 to Aug 2, 2010 - "The Greatest Freedom Show on Earth" is a multi-cultural extravaganza that invites people of all ethnicities to join us this summer, July 30 to August 2, 2010 for four unforgettable days of fun for the whole family. Enjoy live music, Midway Rides, Miss Emancipation Pageant, Emancipation Idol, Dominoe Tournament, Cricket Tournament, Basketball Tournament, Soccer Tournament, talent show, Gospel Fest, delectable cuisine, and the vibrant costumes and colors of masqueraders as we commemorate The Emancipation Act of 1833, that made Canada the final stop on the Underground Railroad to freedom.

Aug 28, 2010 - Browse the wares of over 120 artists and artisans on the beautiful grounds of Fort Malden National Historic Site on August 28th and 29th from 10 am to 5pm. Art by the River is Essex County’s oldest arts and crafts show and sale. Enjoy live music, paint a picture in "the little artist wokshop" in the children’s area, or take a guided historic tour. Children 12 and under are free when accompanied by an adult. (No pets, please). Experience this marvelous, olde town end of summer tradition! See Gibson Gallery, Amherstburg for more information.

Windsor Reggae Festival

Aug 14, 2010 to Aug 15, 2010 - 2010 is Windsor’s Inaugural Reggae & Reggaeton Festival. The Windsor Reggae & Reggaeton Fest will take place at Riverfront Festival Plaza downtown beautiful Windsor, Ontario along the banks of the Detroit River. This year’s festival will feature live performances by some of the hottest artists in reggae, dancehall, reggaeton, soca, R&B and hip hop and will incorporate a dancehall queen showcase. The festival begins Saturday August 14 at 10:am to 1am and will run all day Sunday from noon to 11pm.

Big Wiggle Fest 2010

Aug 14, 2010 - So You Think You Can Dance competition from 2pm - 5pm. Dinner, Drinks, and Band at 7pm. Wiggle contest for children, dance contest for teens. Bar and BBQ for ages 19 and up. Proceeds from the event help Family Respite Services. Proceeds benefit Family Respite Services, an organization supporting families caring for children with disabilities in Windsor/Essex County. Please call for your dance time ASAP!

Bien sûr je ne parle pas des marchés en plein air, des groupes qui jouent en centre ville tous les soirs (et aussi en plein air souvent devant les pubs!) et de toutes les activités offertes pour les enfants sur Riverside (au bord de la rivière, là où on a la vue sur Détroit).

Et même si tu es seule là-bas aujourd'hui, çà peut toujours donner envie à des membres, en road-trip par exemple, de venir, ou même de montrer aux futurs partants de voir qu'il se passe des choses en dehors des grosses villes connues et qui sait susciter le goût de s'installer du côté de Windsor !

Le summerfest 2011 est sur le point de commencer!

Du 15 juin au 4 juillet, il se passera tous les jours un truc sur Riverside (la promenade au bord de la rivière, face à Détroit)


J'ai noté au programme : différents championnats, événements sportifs (BMX, courses de bâteaux.., jet ski), des tas de groupes qui passent (j'en connais aucun!), les fameux feux d'artifices de Windsor/Détroit sur la rivière, diverses parades et la fête foraine permanente!...
