Salut Ben,
Je ne connais pas trop ce quartier mais il est vrai qu'il a mauvaise réputation...
[Edit] Je viens de me renseigner et un collègue m'a dit que c'était vraiment un quartier à éviter.
The worst area of Toronto is east of Jarvis and over to Parliament - Regent Park, St. Jamestown et. al. (though Cabbagetown is a tiny pocket contained here).
South Parkdale is also very rough. Avoid walking along Queen St. between Dufferin and Lansdowne, especially at night. Lansdowne seems to have some sort of curse on it, Bloor and Lansdowne is also a very rough area. Bloor is generally pretty safe but resembles a Third World country from approximately Dovercourt until just before you enter High Park, at Dundas West.
Another area that's not as well known but is very sketchy is so-called "St. Clair Gardens" on the street signs and officially, Carlton Village. St. Clair gets rough between Caledonia and Keele. The intersection of St. Clair and Old Weston Rd. is one of the bleakest in the City. Davenport between Caledonia and its end at Old Weston is tainted by this as well.
Then there's the Oakwood/Vaughan area and further west, Mount Dennis and Weston. The old borough of York is kind of like the Canadian Bronx.
