What five words sum up Toronto?
Star blogger Tonika Morgan was on vacation in the United Kingdom last week when she was asked to describe Toronto to those who have never visited the city. She struggled to find the words. What she came up with initially was "fantastic, a great mix of people and we have a CN Tower."
A little embarrassed by her description, she thought she'd pose a question to candidates running in the Oct. 25 municipal election: "Mr. or Mrs. Candidate, without the political jargon, give us five words that our city can be proud of."
The Star asked Morgan as well as five candidates for city council which five words they'd use to describe our city. Here they are:
Tonika Morgan: Enterprising, bold, growing, diverse, beautiful.
Mohamed Dhanani (candidate in Ward 26, Don Valley West): A united city of hope.
Diana Hall (candidate in Ward 44, Scarborough East): Freedom, neighbourly, accommodating, monumental, prospects.
Mike Layton (candidate in Ward 19, Trinity-Spadina): Creative, livable, diverse, hopeful, exciting.
Neethan Shanmugarajah (candidate in Ward 42, Scarborough-Rouge River): Home, accessible, culture, communities, potential.
Kristyn Wong-Tam (candidate in Ward 27, Toronto Centre-Rosedale): Renewal, engagement, equity, accountability, prosperity.
