Almost all of us have heard about the incredible successful and Oscars-winning Life Of Pi, from Movie Director Ang Lee. Most of the movie was shot in Taiwan, and at Ang Lee's hometown, Taichung. By doing so, Ang Lee intended to boost the development of the movie industry in Taiwan, and to show that Taiwan is also capable in the area of visual effects. The leading worldwide visual effects company Rhythm&Hues have now invested in opening a first office in Kaohsiung City, in the area of Pier-2 Art Center, near the sea. SONY is also located there. Rhythm&Hues should open another office in Taiwan in the future (more information about Rhythm&Hues investment in Taiwan here: https://www.taipeifilmcommission.org...e/NewsDet/1926).

Taichung's City Government also announced the plan to open a movie park by 2015, near the existing wave-generating pool that has been created in Taichung for the shooting of Life of Pi. "The Government said that Martin Scorsese and Hong-Kong Directors John Woo and Tsui Hark have inquired about leasing the tank for future film projects" (https://blogs.wsj.com/scene/2013/03/...lee-in-taiwan/). The movie park should include "movie studios, backlots, and editing center and sound stages", etc. More information can be found here: Sinotour Travel News : 75 percent of Ang Lee

Ang Lee, in a recent article (Taiwan capable in movie visual effects: Ang Lee | Culture | FOCUS TAIWAN - CNA ENGLISH NEWS) believes in Taiwan's capacity in visual effects. "From pre-production, post-production to shooting, I think Taiwan is capable. Life Of Pi is the best proof", he said. Lee hopes that the Taiwanese Government will support the development of the movie industry in Taiwan and also urge the need for the creation of a movie studio in Taiwan.

Last, but not least, if you plan to visit Taiwan, you could follow the traces of "Life Of Pi" for a more original itinerary, by visiting the different places where the movie was shot. The guide is here: https://eng.taiwan.net.tw/m1.aspx?sNo=0019132

Shooting the movie in Taiwan was also a way to attract people's attention on Taiwan, and develop Taiwan tourism.
