WORKING HOLIDAY ACTIVITY PLAN – SOUTH KOREA
Stay: 24 January 2027 – 23 January 2028
1. Personal Background and Objectives
My name is Binta, I am 23 years old and I have recently graduated with a Master’s degree in Marketing. Since discovering
K-dramas and K-pop in 2018, I have dreamed of visiting South Korea and experiencing the country beyond what I have
seen on screen. I have always been fascinated by its rich culture, history, language and cuisine, and I am excited to
experience them firsthand. I chose to complete my studies before leaving so I could fully enjoy this long-awaited
adventure. Since February, I have been meeting a Korean pen pal every week in Paris, where she is currently staying on
a Working Holiday Visa. Over time, we have become friends, and our language exchanges have also allowed me to
discover more about Korean traditions and food. She helps me practise Korean, while I help her improve her French.
This friendship has further strengthened my desire to experience everyday life in South Korea. During my stay, I look
forward to meeting local people, improving my Korean, visiting iconic locations featured in Korean dramas and
discovering the country throughout its different seasons.
2. Travel and Cultural Activities
• January–February 2027 – Seoul (Euljiro): Settle in, complete administrative formalities and explore Euljiro’s historic
printing workshops and industrial streets, whose atmosphere reminds me of Montreuil. Visit Cheonggyecheon Stream,
Sewoon Sangga, Gyeongbokgung Palace and the National Museum of Korea.
• March – Seoul and surroundings: Discover Changdeokgung Palace and its Secret Garden, Hongdae, Seongsu and
traditional markets. Take day trips to Suwon’s Hwaseong Fortress and Incheon’s Chinatown.
• April – Gyeongju and Jeonju: Explore Bulguksa Temple, the royal tombs and Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond in
Gyeongju, then discover Jeonju Hanok Village and its traditional cuisine.
• May – Busan (1 month): Visit Gamcheon Culture Village, Haedong Yonggungsa Temple, Jagalchi Fish Market and
Haeundae and Gwangalli beaches. Explore coastal walking trails and local food markets.
• June – Jeju Island (2–3 weeks): Discover Seongsan Ilchulbong, Jeongbang Waterfall, O’Sulloc Tea Museum and Udo
Island. Hike Hallasan Mountain if weather and trail conditions permit. As I have already applied for and received my
International Driving Permit, Jeju will be an ideal place to use it to explore the island more freely and reach its natural
attractions.
• July – Seoul: Take part in Korean cooking classes, visit museums and traditional markets, explore local neighbourhoods
and discover K-pop-related pop-up stores. I also hope to attend concerts and music events, depending on the schedule
during my stay.
• August – Sokcho and Seoraksan: Discover Sokcho’s traditional market, beaches and Seoraksan National Park, including
suitable hiking trails.
• September – Gangneung: Explore Gyeongpo Beach and Lake, Ojukheon House and the local coffee culture along the
east coast.
• October – Seoul: Enjoy autumn foliage and hiking in Bukhansan National Park, revisit historic palaces and discover
seasonal cultural events.
• November – Andong: Visit Hahoe Folk Village, traditional houses and cultural heritage sites to learn more about Korean
customs and Confucian traditions.
• December – Seoul: Experience winter illuminations, seasonal markets, Korean food and a traditional jjimjilbang.
• January 2028 – Seoul and nearby areas: Continue exploring cultural sites, local neighbourhoods and places not yet
visited, before completing my planned one-year stay.
3. Budget and Possible Part-Time Work
My current employment contract in France ends in January 2027, and I expect to have approximately €7,000 in personal
savings before departure. My priority will be tourism and cultural immersion. If necessary, I may seek part-time work
from July 2027 onwards to supplement my budget. I would consider positions in a café, restaurant, hotel, shop or
convenience store, allowing me to practise Korean and experience the local working environment. I will use KoreaBridge,
Indeed and Craigslist to look for suitable opportunities and comply with all applicable Working Holiday Visa conditions, including the maximum permitted working hours of 25 hours per week.
