Declaring self-managed medical treatment for the Australian Working Holiday Visa

Hi everyone,

I have hemophilia and I’m on prophylactic treatment. I’m preparing a Working Holiday Visa for Australia and I plan to bring my own treatment (a supply of medication) from France. I manage everything myself, with no medical follow-up and no coverage from the Australian health system.

I have a question about question 7 on the visa form, which asks whether you have a medical condition requiring care or treatment during your stay in Australia:

  • In my case, should I still answer “yes”, even though I don’t need any care or follow-up there (I’m bringing and managing my own treatment)?
  • I’m worried the Australian authorities might misunderstand and think my condition would lead to medical costs for them (hospital stays, follow-up, reimbursed care), and refuse my visa for “excessive cost”, when that’s absolutely not the case since I’m fully independent with my treatment.
  • Has anyone been in a similar situation (bringing their own ongoing treatment, with no need for local care)? If you answered “yes” to question 7, how did you word your answer to make this clear and avoid any misunderstanding?

Thanks in advance for your feedback and advice, it would really help me plan ahead and word my application properly!
